Supporting the Braunstone Community
Posted in Staff Blogs, charity on 04/02/2009 09:08 am by adminLast week saw me head back to school, to make cakes! It wasnt as easy as you may think! The day was part of a week long event called Cake Catastrophe. Organised by Leicestershire Education Business Company, the event held at Ellesmere College – a special needs school in Braunstone. The aim of the event was to encourage students to develop their enterprise skills through team building, self esteem, creativity and cooking. This fun and interactive week involved working with a small group of students with educational needs. Students began the week with team building activities and then will look at all aspects of cake making (Packaging, Taste, Marketing and Producing) ultimately resulting in the students selling their cakes at the school and at Leicester Market on Friday.
It was a great day though very tiring as we helped the children make hundreds of fairy cakes and plenty of Victoria sponges.
I even managed to stick to the diet and didnt eat a single cake on the day but ended up making some at the weekend using rhubarb – drop me a line if you want the receipe as they were gorgeous!
The children did a great job selling the cakes on friday and raised over £50 for Shelter.
