What is Bandwidth?

“Bandwidth” – A term used by web hosting companies, and Internet Service Providers, to describe how much data (information) can pass from the server your website is hosted on to people visiting your web site. This includes the files (images, documents, programming files) that make up your website as well as any data downloaded from databases or media files ie. video, audio etc….

If you have a small basic website, bandwidth this will not be an issue.

If you have a full database eCommerce driven website, or you have, or will be, running an e-marketing campaign, you will need a lot of bandwidth to cope with incoming visitors to your web site.

If your bandwidth is too small, your website will crash. Always check your website statistics to see the website activity and how much bandwidth is being used.

 

Twitter just got a little full

Having recently updated our Twitter page this morning, I went back on it again just before lunch and there was an interesting surge of online twitters, twittering away on the site.

I wonder why the overload?
Mind you it is half term break and unless that was an online attack or just that time during the week that caused this interesting screen to appear. At least this is better than a 404 or 500 web page warning which means nothing to most online users.
