Michael Reaching out to Postgraduates at Leicester University

Leicester, UK - 23 June 2008

Now in its fourth successive year the Festival of Postgraduate Research will take place on Thursday 26th June at the University of Leicester. The festivals aim is to provide research postgraduates’ the chance to develop their skills in communicating their research effectively to non-specialist audiences. Postgraduates will take part in a poster competition, with their posters explaining the real world applications of the research they have conducted to the widest possible audience. A large part of that audience will be local Leicester business leaders who have been invited to get involved and help judge the competition.

The recruitment for the competition started in January of this year, and of the entrants 50 students have been chosen to present their research. Entries come from across a wide range of fields from socials sciences and art to biological sciences, business, engineering and education.

Michael Cheung, Creative Director of the rapidly growing new media design agency based in Leicester, Michael Associates Ltd, is just one of the local business leaders who have answered the University’s call to join the judging panel.

When asked what had prompted him to become a judge this year Michael said; “The University of Leicester has a fantastic reputation for research and this is a great chance for local businesses to support the University, meet the innovators of the future and understand how their work will affect the world. For the post graduates taking part it’s a great chance to cross the line from academia to the commercial world, and obtain feedback on just how their research is viewed. This is the first year I have become involved with the festival and I’m looking forward to the event, talking to post-graduates and seeing just how their research can be applied to business.”
