Local company supports the business stars of the future
Leicester, UK - 19 August 2008
Is Michael Cheung, Creative Director of the successful marketing & design
agency Michael Associates, looking for a career change, maybe
as Lord Chief Justice? “No, not at all” laughs
Michael when asked, but he is going to be doing a lot of
judging during the first week of September, as a member of
the judging panel for De Montfort University’s ‘Summer
Project’ finals.
The ‘Summer Project Finals’ taking place on
2nd September on the university campus will see the university
students who have taken part in this year vying for the coveted
winners award which also comes with a generous monetary prize
to help the students fund their final year at the University.
The ‘Summer Project’, now in its second successful
year, seeks to place undergraduates who have completed two
years of their degree with local SME’s to undertake
project work. The ‘Summer Project’ team seeks
to match students with specific skills and aptitude to projects
submitted by local SME’s. Students are expected to
submit a report on their project, prior to the finals, and
deliver a presentation to judges on the day.
When asked why he had accepted the offer to sit on this
year’s judging panel Michael replied, “I took
on a ‘Summer Project’ student last year and have
first-hand experience of the benefits the project can bring
to both the companies and students involved. As well as working
on clients’ design projects, Paramdeep, the student
we employed managed to update our company literature, brochures
and create new branding, all the work we could not find time
to do ourselves as our clients’ needs always come first.
The work undertaken also helped Paramdeep improve his design
portfolio with a range of completed professional projects.
Due to an increase in the number of our employees we simply
did not have the space to take on another student this year,
so when the ‘Summer Project’ team approached
me to be part of the judging panel instead I was happy to
accept their offer and stay involved in the scheme.”
